The Foundation is based ona successful overseas model. Internationally, millions of dollars are overseen and distributed through similar charitable foundations.

Using the Geyser CommunityFoundation provides cost savings and tax benefits. The Foundation’s sole focus isto benefit the Rotorua community as directed by the wishes of donors.

Gifted money can be placedin a Named Fund with specific rules for its use and distribution. These ruleswill be followed long past the lifetime of the donor or individual trustees.The Named Fund will provide on-going benefit to the donor’s chosen charity.Geyser Community Foundation’s experienced Trustees will ensure that a sound investment strategy is followed as part of the fund management role of the Foundation.

The Geyser CommunityFoundation’s fund management role could also benefit many other non-profit andcharitable organisations in Rotorua. Volunteer Boards of charities who have receivedsubstantial sums of money from donors may not have the expertise or experience toinvest and manage these funds effectively. Geyser can provide a vehicle for thefunds to be invested. The returns on the funds are directed back to the charityaccording to its wishes. This removes the pressure from the Board of thecharity to agree on investment policies. Setting up a Named Fund within Geyser takessome of the funds held by the charity out of its financial statements and maymake fundraising easier.

The Geyser Community Foundationhas also created a general fund called the Geyser Fund. This fund will eventuallyhave grants available for charitable causes in the Rotorua community. It is theperfect vehicle for donors who wish to support their local community but who wouldprefer to let their money be directed where it is most needed by a committee ofthe Geyser Community Foundation who is well-informed on the community’s needs.
